Australian citizens and permanent residents are encouraged to apply. <h3>Benefits</h3><ul><li>Competitive annual salary plus superannuation.</li><li>Permanent full-time position with 38 hours per week.</li><li>Stable employment in an established café.</li><li>Supportive and friendly working environment.</li><li>Opportunity to showcase and develop your culinary skills.</li><li>Work with a varied breakfast and lunch menu.</li><li>Opportunities for professional growth and career development.</li></ul> <h3>Task & responsibilities</h3><ul><li>Design and update breakfast and lunch menus featuring egg dishes, focaccias, salads, pasta, schnitzels, sandwiches and other café-style meals.</li><li>Calculate food quantities, ingredient expenses and labour costs while controlling portions and reducing food wastage.</li><li>Purchase and oversee kitchen supplies, including fresh produce, meats, poultry, dairy products, bread and other essential ingredients.</li><li>Cook and prepare menu items such as eggs Benedict, smashed avocado, quiches, focaccias, schnitzels, salads, pasta, wraps and sandwiches.</li><li>Check the flavour, quality, serving size and presentation of meals throughout preparation and service.</li><li>Organise food preparation and communicate with management, kitchen employees and waiting staff regarding menu needs, customer requests and operational matters.</li><li>Show appropriate cooking methods and guide kitchen staff in food preparation, cooking, plating and presentation techniques.</li><li>Deliver meals efficiently and consistently during busy breakfast and lunch services.</li><li>Adapt meals to meet dietary needs, including vegetarian and gluten-free requirements, where appropriate.</li><li>Monitor stock levels and ensure all ingredients are correctly labelled, rotated and stored.</li><li>Implement and maintain food-safety, hygiene and sanitation standards throughout the kitchen.</li><li>Keep kitchen equipment, preparation surfaces and storage areas clean and properly maintained in accordance with relevant standards.</li><li>Recruit, train and supervise kitchen staff when required, providing instruction on recipes, portion control and safe food-handling procedures.</li><li>Store, freeze and preserve food correctly to protect its freshness, quality and safety.</li><li>Oversee kitchen activities to ensure compliance with workplace health and safety requirements.</li></ul> <h3>Qualification & experience</h3><ul><li>Certificate IV in Kitchen Management/Commercial Cookery and/or a Diploma of Hospitality, supported by strong culinary knowledge and an understanding of food-safety standards.</li><li>A minimum of 1 years’ relevant experience as a Chef in a busy commercial kitchen.</li><li>Proven ability to prepare a variety of café-style breakfast and lunch meals, including egg dishes, focaccias, salads, pasta, schnitzels, sandwiches and wraps.</li><li>Capacity to follow and enhance the existing menu while introducing new ideas based on seasonal produce and customer preferences.</li><li>Sound understanding of kitchen operations, including stock control, ingredient rotation, portion management, food costing and waste minimization.</li><li>Thorough knowledge of food hygiene, safe food-handling practices, and workplace health and safety requirements.</li><li>Ability to work effectively within a fast-paced kitchen and provide support and guidance to junior staff members.</li><li>Strong commitment to consistently producing high-quality meals that meet presentation standards and customers’ dietary needs.</li><li>Excellent organizational and time-management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks and perform efficiently during busy service periods.</li><li>Professional and positive approach, with a focus on customer satisfaction and maintaining the café’s quality standards.</li></ul>
