About the Role

Yamba Shores Tavern, located at 64 The Mainbrace, Yamba NSW 2464, Australia is seeking a skilled and motivated Cook to join our team to assist with kitchen operations and deliver high-quality meals in a dynamic hospitality environment.

The successful candidate will assist in the design and preparation of innovative seasonal menus, manage daily kitchen activities, ensure food safety compliance, oversee stock and supplies, and assist the kitchen team to maintain exceptional dining standards.

Task & responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook a wide variety of dishes in a commercial kitchen according to established recipes and quality standards.
  • Select, inspect and prepare food ingredients, ensuring they meet safety and freshness requirements.
  • Operate and manage kitchen equipment, controlling cooking temperatures and processes for consistency and quality.
  • Season and flavour dishes appropriately during preparation and monitor food presentation prior to service.
  • Plate and garnish meals, ensuring correct portion sizes and adherence to presentation standards.
  • Store food and ingredients according to food safety procedures and manage stock in temperature-controlled facilities.
  • Adapt meal preparation to meet specific dietary needs and special requests from customers.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, and hygienic kitchen environment, including cleaning tools and equipment.
  • Assist with basic menu planning and forecasting of food requirements.
  • Provide support and guidance to junior kitchen staff under supervision.

Qualification & experience

  • Certificate IV in Commercial Cookery or equivalent practical experience
  • Minimum 1 year of relevant industry experience
  • Strong knowledge of cooking techniques, ingredients, and kitchen operations
  • Ability to work effectively in a high-pressure environment with strong attention to detail
  • Demonstrated leadership and organisational skills
