Cafe One Indooroopilly is seeking a qualified and experienced Chef to prepare, cook and present high-quality meals while ensuring efficient kitchen operations and strict adherence to food safety standards. This full-time position is responsible for maintaining consistent food quality, supporting menu development, supervising junior staff, managing inventory, and assisting with cost control measures in line with ANZSCO 351311 – Chef.

Task & responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook menu items in accordance with established recipes and quality standards.
  • Plan and assist in designing menus, including seasonal and promotional items.
  • Ensure food presentation, portion control, and consistency in taste and appearance.
  • Supervise and coordinate daily kitchen operations to ensure timely meal preparation.
  • Train and supervise junior kitchen staff and provide on-the-job guidance.
  • Monitor stock levels, order supplies, and ensure proper storage and rotation of ingredients.
  • Conduct stocktakes and maintain accurate inventory records.
  • Ensure compliance with food safety, sanitation, and occupational health and safety standards.
  • Inspect and maintain kitchen equipment to ensure safe and effective operation.
  • Minimise food wastage and assist in monitoring food costs to maintain profitability.
  • Liaise with front-of-house staff regarding special requests and dietary requirements.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen at all times.

Qualification & experience

  • Relevant qualification at Certificate IV level or higher in Commercial Cookery (or equivalent).
  • Minimum one (1) year of relevant experience as a Chef in a commercial kitchen environment.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise and coordinate kitchen operations.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced hospitality environment.
